Stina Herrera graduated from SFA with an MFA in Fall 2014. While her major emphasis was in art metals/jewelry, she completed a minor emphasis in printmaking. Stina deftly combined practices from both disciplines and exploited the common ground held between the two, making use of her familiarity with copper manipulation, for instance, to create some elegant blind embossments on paper. Stina's work on one hand questions the use of alert systems to communicate perceived physical and mental maladies, while another series pays tribute to her different levels of heritage, wether it be familial, academic/artistic, or otherwise.
