Axe'm Jack O'Lanterns


















Printmaking Jack O'Lanterns are on display this weekend at the Cole Art Center for the Pumpkin Art Contest, a juried pumpkin carving contest for Scare on the Square. Scare on the Square is a Halloween carnival held Oct. 30 from 5-8 in downtown Nacogdoches.

With wood-carving tools in hand and a haunting image in mind, beginning and advanced printmaking students carved away at their pumpkins.

Gulf Print Storm

Printmakers here are furiously preparing for the Gulf Print Storm, a printmaking extravaganza scheduled to hit Beaumont, Texas, late November. Events are organized by Xenia Fedorchenko of Lamar University. I will be accompanied down south by masters student Joseph, along with BFA students Maria and Lauren.

Events include demonstrations on Thursday afternoon . The SFA printmakers will give a one hour long printmaking demonstration on the viscosity printing method developed by Krishna Reddy.

I will have work up in the Dishman Museum exhibition titled Ink, Paper and Process: an Exhibition of Contemporary Prints in America, curated by Xenia Fedorchenko and Joseph Velasquez. The show is up from November 13-20 and the reception is Thursday evening from 7-9, with artist talks from 6-7. Printmaking II students carving and proofing their blocks.


The printmaking II students, as well as the printmaking masters students, are carving blocks for Exquisite Corpse Steam Roller Madness! So far over 8 University print programs are participating, with each program carving four 2' x 4' MDF blocks, to create one creature in four parts. These blocks will get de-assembled and re-assembled, for printing live via steam roller in downtown Beaumont on Friday, November 19, from. Friday evening, from 7-9, works from Exquisite Corpse Steam Roller Madness! will get displayed, along with live printing by Dirty Printmakers of America and Cannonball Press and a performance by Non Grata, an international print performance group.

Saturday activities at the Beaumont Art League include evening receptions for the show Art of Ink! as well as the Ink Slingerís Ball! Live printing, prints, music and a silent auction of pronto prints by tattoo artists will also take place.

Entries for Art of Ink! are due between November 5 and November 13.

Print exchange opportunity

Wheat Farm Press is starting up a quarterly print exchange, Wheat Farm Press Print Exchange 1.1, accompanied by a juried publication of prints. December 3 is the deadline for receipt of 11 prints. For a $10 submission fee you'll get back 10 prints from other participating artists. For $25 you'll get back 10 prints along with a copy of the juried publication. Live on Main: one day show

Printmakers in the beginning and advanced class had work up this past Friday for Live on Main, a one day music and art show on Main St. organized by Jeromy Barber.
